Mary Sheppard Fries

TREASURER

I first became involved in Pier One Theatre in 1982 largely as a support person in front of the house and occasionally a stage hand. My husband at the time was both acting with Pier One and dancing with Kenai Performers. I started taking dance classes from Jean McMaster and soon I had the theater bug full force!  Throughout the 90’s I was an active Pier One participant as a dancer in Dance Theatre North a company that performed under the auspices of Pier One Theatre. I also was a front of the house volunteer for the other productions. My child benefited tremendously from youth camps and I see it as the reason they are so active in theater today. It was a safe and nurturing place for a kid that did not fit in well in other traditional activities such as sports. In recent years I have been more active on stage again. I have been in two musicals, Jesus Christ Superstar 2019  and Beauty and the Beast 2023 as well as an acting role in An Ideal Husband in 2019. I joined the Pier One Theatre Board of Directors in 2019 and was president for one year. I am currently Treasurer for one year and now into my second year. For fifty years I feel Pier One Theatre has been a vital part of the Homer community from providing quality thought provoking and entertaining theatre, educating and supporting children and providing an inclusive space that welcomes anyone wishing to spend some time on stage or in supporting roles. It has been a gift to the whole community that we are honored to provide.
